Crime Victims Services

 The court system can be a strenuous experience, especially for crime victims. To aid victims throughout the process, the District Attorney’s Office has a Crime Victims Services Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the Coordinator to ensure that victims are aware of and gain access to services available to them. As a victim of a crime, one may be eligible for certain kinds of assistance through both the New York State Office of Victim’s Services (NYSOVS) and the Crime Victim’s Services Coordinator.

Some of the services that are provided by NYSOVS include but are not limited to:
  • Compensation for medical bills
  • Compensation for loss of essential property
     
Some of the services that are provided by the Coordinator include but are not limited to:
  • Emotional Support services to victims and family members
  • Information regarding OVS eligibility
  • Assistance with filing an OVS application
  • Advocacy and referrals to community agencies
  • Assistance with restitution
  • Explanation of the court procedures
  • Court accompaniment
  • Provide status updates on the case
  • Information regarding the any other services available to crime victims
Victims of crime suffer a number of losses, including physical injury, emotional trauma, and financial hardship. It is the goal of this office to help people recover from the effects of being a crime victim.

This program provides counseling, personal advocacy, court accompaniment, OVS assistance, transportation, information and referrals to all victims of crime within Schuyler County. These services are completely confidential and are available to you at no cost.

                                         Sexual Assault Resource Center

                Planned Parenthood Services of the Finger Lakes: 1–888–810–0093 
SARC provides comprehensive, free services that include a 24-hour hotline, 24-hour medical advocacy and accompaniment, legal advocacy and accompaniment, OVS assistance, information, referrals and counseling to victims of sexual assault. SARC serves Schuyler Co., Chemung Co., & Steuben Co. These services are completely confidential and are available at no cost to you.

                                         The National Suicide Prevention Hotline

The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is available 24 hours a day. By calling you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area. You can call regarding any issues that are bothering you, including but not limited to substance abuse, economic worries, relationship and family problems, sexual orientation, illness, getting over abuse, depression, mental and physical illness, and many other issues that may be affecting you.

OVS offers compensation related to personal injury, death, and loss of essential personal property. As the payer of last resort, OVS will compensate for out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance or other resources.

Vine, Vinelink, and their mobile counterpart are resources that allow you to search for information regarding an offender incarcerated in the New York City Department of Correction, New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and the 60 County Correctional Facilities. If you want to be notified of an offenders release from incarceration you can also register to be notified by phone call or email. This service is provided to assist Victims of Crime who have a right to know about their offender’s custody status and when they are being released from incarceration.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is responsible for the confinement and rehabilitation of individuals in custody and parolees supervised throughout seven regional offices. You can also use this site to check the location of an inmate and check on parole eligibility dates.
                 
                                                               SAVIN – NY

This system is a service available to victims, or their designees, who have been granted certain Family Court Orders of Protection. It allows the victims the option of registering for notification when an Order of Protection is served.
